Welcome to Junior High
Starting junior high is an exciting time for many students. A new school means new teachers, more friends and a greater sense of independence in preparation for high school. Students entering junior high can be in Grades 5 through 9, depending on the school they are enrolled in.
What can you expect?
Students in junior high can move around quite a bit during the day, going from class to class meeting different teachers. They may be assigned a locker, eat in a cafeteria where food may be sold and have more opportunities to join athletic teams, school clubs and activities. A full school day is approximately six hours.
Teachers and school staff are prepared to support students with many different learning needs through an inclusive approach. Parents/guardians and teachers are encouraged to maintain ongoing communication with one another throughout the school year, to ensure student well-being, progress and success are achieved.

Welcome to High School
Students in high school are presented with multiple opportunities to focus in on their strengths and take on new challenges that may interest them. Many students use this time to expand on their skill set and explore new ones to help prepare them for the workforce and/or post-secondary learning. Students entering high school can be in Grades 9 through 12, depending on the school they are enrolled in.
What can you expect?
Much like junior high, students in high school are on the move! In addition to their required classes, students will be given the chance to choose courses that interest them. The school year is split into two semesters. Students will complete some courses during the first semester (first half of school year) and others will be completed during the second semester (second half of school year). Some courses can run all year long.
Specialized programming may be an option at your child's school and exciting opportunities to join student athletics, clubs and activities will be available. A full school day is approximately six hours.
