Safe and Inclusive Schools
HRCE recognizes the importance of safe, inclusive and caring school communities as a foundational component of student well-being and achievement. HRCE, school administrators, teachers, staff, students and community partners share a collective responsibility to work together to create and foster safe and inclusive learning environments.
HRCE sets an expectation for all schools to provide safe, caring, inclusive and accepting learning environments that support the achievement and well-being of each and every student. These expectations include addressing conflict and behaviours that breach the Provincial School Code of Conduct, implementing progressive discipline which focuses on educational value and restorative approaches, and creating a positive school climate.
Creating safe and inclusive learning environments involves intentionally teaching and modeling physical, psychological and emotional safety while focusing on building relationships and knowing our learners as an integral part of equitable curriculum delivery and daily practice in schools.
